History

The history of the Department of English begins along with the inception of the college in 2007, since the study of the English Literature was mandatory for students of the degree programs such as B.Com, BCA and B.Sc Mathematics. The motive of our department is to enrich the language skills and to increase their communication abilities through Literature.

The Under Graduate Degree Program in English Literature was started in 2008 as there was a greater need for learning English. To enroll the students who have an ambition to pursue their higher studies the Post Graduate Program was started in the year 2013 and extended during 2015 to face the demand for the course and the M.Phil Program was started in the year 2016.

Objectives

A student who has successfully completed English major will be able to:

• Understand and describe the role of literature in development of cultures.

• Demonstrate critical thinking, especially to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate ideas and texts.

• Utilize current technologies to assist in the research and presentation of critical and creative writing.

• Know interrelationships of Indian Literature and the major Literatures such as British Literature, Modern Literature etc.

• Make the students aware of the study of English as a lifelong process.

We, The Department of English have the overall vision, to empower rural women and offer opportunity to explore their own Identity, Values, Manners and Morals through English Language Teaching.

The English Department and the staff have committed themselves to enrich the students to become good language learners in order to achieve and to equip them with necessary Language and Leadership Quality to get success in their future.
